Research Projects with Egyptian Army:
Besides teaching as an assistant professor (Associate Professor from July 2011) in the Electronics and Communications Department at Ain Shams University, I participated in two research projects for the Egyptian Army.
# The first project is to design and implement a fiber optic gyroscope. This work includes:
- Assembly and test of fiber Sagnac interferometer
- Design, implementation, and test of open-loop FOG circuits
- Simulation of closed-loop FOG algorithm
- Design, implementation, and test of closed-loop FOG circuits
- Assembly, and test of inertial measurement IMU unit
# The second project is to design and implement a fiber optic transceiver.
I have also participated in the implementation of a MEMS IR spectrometer. My role was to design and test the optical interferometer.
This work resulted in the fabrication of a compact MEMS IR spectrometer by SiWare Systems (an Egyptian Company).
Besides, I participated in the implementation of an OCT head for SiWare Systems.
Current interests and Future Plans:
I am now focusing on gas and liquid pollution detection using FT-IR spectrometers. I am working on developing a new pattern recognition technique aiming to identify the type of substance and its concentration with minimum uncertainty.
