Title of M.Sc. Thesis : Evaluation Of A New Anti-schistosomal Drug In Mice.
Abstract of thesis :
This work was suggested in order to evaluate the efficacy of a novel anti-schistosomal agent namely 15-5458, at three dosage levels (50 , 25 and 15 mg/kg body weight) against the Egyptian strain of Schistosoma mansoni in male albino mice. To achieve this purpose , different parasitological , hematological and biochemical criteria were studied.
In conclusion , the drug Ro 15-5458 in its lower dosage level seems safe to the host and effective against all the stages of the Egyptian strain of S.mansoni .
This could be corroborated by the results of hematological as well as the biochemical studies of this work. These promising findings encourage continuing the research on this agent to eventually achieve the valuable aim of these studies , the cure of human kind from schistosomiasis.

" Apoptotic Activity In Cancer Patients With Infection Of Viral Hepatitis "
The aim of the work
This thesis will explore what known about the effect of viral infection C or B on apoptotic markers (Fas and Fas-L) expression and relation of this effect on peripheral blood mononuclear cells for each of normal blood , hepatocellular carcinoma patients and non-HCC patients.
This study included the following measurements :
- Serological Investigations: Detection of Hepatitis B virus surface antigen(HBsAg)- Hepatitis C virus antibodies (HCV-Ab) by ELISA techniques.
- Biochemical Investigations : Alpha-phetoprotein (AFP) by Micro- particle Enzyme Immunoassay (MEIA)technology - Determination of Liver enzymes ( ALT and AST ) by a kinetic method.
- Molecular Investigations: Determination of Hepatitis C virus RNA by Reverse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) - Hepatitis B Virus DNA by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
- Determination of Fas receptor and Fas-L which considered as indicator of apoptotic activity.
